| The acquisition of language and culture is much more than the learning of grammatical structures and vocabulary. It is participation in an event of being and becoming. Language is the expression of self. In language we are revealed to others and to ourselves in new and yet unimagined ways |
| It is through language that we enter into a consonant relationship with the world. Through reflection on the Science of Human Formation theories and the relating of delineated experiences, we come to realize that this consonance is only possible when language and culture are treated as a whole, with any attempt to separate them in the learning process resulting in a learner's inability to function appropriately in his or her encounters |
| While we understand that obstacles exist which may impede our learning of language we find, within the context of formation science and related fields of study, the key to the language acquisition experience: the human person. It is for this reason that we deal not only with intellect, but with affect; for it is the process of language acquisition which can be, first of all, formative and secondly, transformative |
| The Science of Human Formation is concerned with that which makes us uniquely human. In this dissertation we show that language is one of the most human things about being human |
